Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
